What a blessed day we have had. Saturday was a day full of worship and relationship building. We attended the last day of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Music Conference today. I have to tell you, God was glorified and worshiped today. WORSHIP was the word of the day. Sidney Mohede started the the morning off with a time of praise and worship. Alvin Slaughter hopped on the worship train as it powered down the heavenly tracks. The Holy Spirit was most definitely in the Brooklyn Tabernacle sanctuary on Saturday. It has been a long time since I have seen the Spirit like this. After an unexpected altar call, one of the pastors (For the life of me I can't remember his name) from BT came to speak to us on the topic of worship. His message was true heartfelt worship comes not in those moments when we give God things we don't love, but when we give him the things we do love. His sermon was taken from the story of Abraham's willingness to offer Issac as a sacrifice from the book of Genesis 22. What a challenge!
Next was lunch. Let me tell you about our lunch. Me, Chris, Mary Helen, Dena, Debbie, & Nanette decided to go and try Grimaldi's Pizzeria. Here's the catch, it was roughly 1.1 miles from the church and we only had around an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes to make the journey, eat and get back. Well, being the big fella that I am, it is very difficult for me to walk the speed needed. I met back up with my group at the Pizzeria as they were turning around to go back. They said that there was a 30 minute wait, so we had to make the 1.1 mile trek back to the church and settle for a hot dog from a street vendor. Yeah, Wesley was not a happy camper, but the hog dog was pretty good. HA!
The afternoon session consisted of more, yep you guessed it, worship. The conference wrapped up with a Q&A session with Carol Cymbala and her team. When we left the church all us Hog fans were checking out the Arkansas score. Just before entering the subway tunnel we found out that our Hogs staged an 18 point 2nd half comeback to to beat Texas A&M 42-38. We then called the Hogs right there on the street corner in downtown Brooklyn, New York. Very cool!
We then headed to the subway where we split into two groups to go have a litte fun in the Big Apple. Half of us went to Times Square for shopping and the other half went to see the Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero in Downtown Manhattan. I was in the group going downtown. We got off of the train and headed to the Staten Island Ferry. We took the ferry across the harbor and got a good view of the Statue of Liberty. When the ferry ride to and from Staten Island was finished we then headed for Ground Zero.
After passing by Wall Street, we came upon the 9/11 Memorial. Construction was underway on the new Freedom Towers, but being at the spot where the Twin Towers came crashing down on September 11, 2001 was an emotional moment. They rain began to pour down so our group split. Some went to eat and others went to see more of the memorial. I was in that group. We spoke to a man who was present that day and he summed up the feelings of that day with three words: confusion, shock, and fear. What a feeling it was to be there. After a visit to the 9/11 Memorial Gift Shop, we headed back to the hotel.
What a wonderful day it was. God was lifted up and His name was magnified with our praises. It has a been a wonderful trip and God has certainly been glorified. We have one more day in New York, our request is that God would continue to be gloried in all that we do.
