Ok, so my second attempt at blogging isn't any better than the first. To be quite honest, I can't remember the last time I blogged. A lot has transpired since I last blogged, but I want to focus on what has transpired among the 2010 Razorback Football season. It has been a roller coaster year in the NCAA and it has seemed that the season has gone on forever.
It is no secret that I am a HUGE Arkansas Razorback fan. What a year it has been for the Hogs. They finished 10-2 and are heading for their first BCS Bowl ever in the Sugar Bowl. They will meet #6 Ohio State on January 4, 2011 in New Orleans, LA. It has definitely been a fun season. We have seen the development and success of one of, if not the best Quarterback to ever wear the Razorback uniform. We have seen the Hogs go 4-5 on the road and 6-7 at home. We saw the emergence of Knile Davis as a running threat which lead to a balance offensive attack at the U of A. We have seen the University make a commitment to the football program with the announcement of the new football operations center to be built in 2011 and the unprecedented contract extension of Head Hog Bobby Petrino.
It has definitely been an exciting year and the future is looking really promising. Who knows what it will hold. If the Hogs knock off Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl, you can expect a top 5 finish in 2010. That, in and of itself is huge. There are some issues that I have though. Most of them petty, but I do have one major problem.
How is it that Ryan Mallet doesn't win any awards for his performance in 2010? How is it that he finishes the season as a All American runner up? How do you justify that? Ryan Mallett is the best quarterback in college football. (Not to take anything away from Heisman Trophy winner Con...I mean...Cam Newton. You are a phenomenal QB, you will just be forever tainted for your pay to play scheme. I am sorry, but I will never buy the whole "I didn't know what my dad was doing" story. Really?) Anyway, back to the push for #15. Ryan Mallett's numbers were right up there with Kellen Moore and Andrew Luck and he did it with a much tougher schedule than either of the others. Despite that Mallett isn't even in the top 5 for the Heisman. He is a honorable mention for the All-American team. Come on folks! Really? Really? Everyone points back to the Alabama game. Yes, Ryan had a bad game. He did throw 3 interceptions, but lets look at the other games on the year in which he was healthy; basically every game but Auburn and Ole Miss. He thew for over 300 yards in 9 of those 10 games. Two of those nine he threw for 400 or more yards, but you say he lacks consistency. HA! Ok! In those nine games Ryan went 200-299 for 3,085 yards with 23 TD's and 7 INT's (174.26 efficiency rating). Keep in mind this was against 4 ranked teams of which Ryan went 3-1. Kellen Moore and Andrew Luck both faced 2 ranked teams and went 1-1. What else do I need to say? How can you say Ryan didn't deserve every bit of credit these other two got?
Ok. Ok. Breathe in, breath out. However you slice it, the 2010 Arkansas Razorback Football season was a tremendous success and everything is in place to soar even higher next season. There is one game left and it, just like every other game this year, is a big one. Is this the last time we see Ryan Mallett in a Hog uniform? Will Joe Adams and Jarius Wright be back for a 2011 campaign? Will Knile Davis dominate the Hog running game again next year? Who replaces Alex Tejada on kickoffs? I can't wait for September 2011!!! Woo Pig Soooie!!!
